Not since Raf Simons’ Stan Smith capsule from April 2019have we seen the old superimposed sneaker-on-sneaker, but now the double-take finish returns to adidas’ mainline with a celebratory Rivalry Low “Superstar”
Screen printing the 50th-anniversary icon onto its upper, this adidas Rivalry Low is one mind-boggling release. Adding even more intrigue is the fact that adidas has opted for imposing an aged — maybe even 50-year-old — Superstar graphic on the upper and midsole. Shell toes and midsoles arrive in oxidized fashion, while detail on the uppers is showing signs of distress. More confusion arrives with the pair’s double stitching, dual Three Stripes that just don’t quite align, and tower boxes that look split — but aren’t.
A complete midfuck — but we’re loving it. Pairs of the superimposed adidas Rivalry Low “Superstar” are set to release on adidas.com this Spring, with a confirmed at to follow shortly. Until then, enjoy an official look at the pair here below, and make sure you tune into our Twitter Feedfor further updates on the drop.
