adidas to Re-issue the Superstar 1986 as a Tribute to RUN-DMC
The adidas Superstar is iconic for so many reasons. The staple silhouette received notoriety, first on the NBA’s hardwood as the high-cut Pro Model, before going low and hitting the pavements. But it’s adoration from hip-hop icons RUN-DMC — the world’s first non-athlete sneaker endorsers — and their 1986 track “My adidas” put the sneaker on the figurative map.
The adidas Superstar has been kept on ice for the majority of last year, with the Three-Stripe’s focus solely on retro classics like the Stan Smith, and new-old models like the Yung-1 and Nite Jogger — but now the Trefoil brand will be bringing the silhouette back with a special homage-heavy pair for the aforementioned musical legends.
The refreshed take on the iconic adidas silhouette boasts many of the same components of the original, including it’s OG White and Black makeup. But new additions, like the gold-finished iconography on the tongue, heel counter, and right along the profile logos, as well as branded laces make these different enough for those in the know to know.
Grab a detailed look at the honorary creps below, and expect these to begin hitting select retailers and adidas.com on April 26th for a single Benjamin.
