Being a bonafide footwear icon, the adidas Superstar is well within its rights to experiment with all kinds of textures, materials, and tones. But it’s not always about left-field collaborations or vibrant colors, with this stealthy black suede and metallic gold Superstar an exemplar of subtlety.

With uppers of a shaggy black suede and a tonal black Shell Toe and sole unit, the pair presenters with a simple, stable base. From there, you’d expect the Three Stripe to get heavy-handed with contrast Three Stripes and/or bold accents — but they don’t. They instead opt for lightly-textured nubuck overlays and tongues — all in black — and tonal liners, laces, and insoles. Adding some grandeur to the release is the heritage gold foil branding at the heel, mid-panel, and tongue to complete the design.
