The adidas Y-3 imprint by Yohji Yamamoto continues to bring its creative vision to the Three Stripes' Adizero line, now outfitting the Adios 9 in a number of different finishes.
Having only recently launched in a special Ekiden edition, the Adidas Adios 9 was first teased during December 2023's The Running Event. Although much was kept under wraps over the last year, what became evident right away was the runner's updated upper material, LIGHTSTRIKE PRO midsole, and overall design language. Yamamoto's iteration of the close-to-the-ground racing shoe keeps the model's performance integrity intact, but with some fashion-forward tweaks.
As with the upcoming adidas Y-3 Adios Pro 4, the newly-surfaced set of Adios 9s opt for straightforward color palettes. 'Orbit Gray' and 'Core Black' appear on Yamamoto's latest canvas, but 'Oatmeal' joins the mix atop one pair. The shoe consists of the same LIGHTLOCK upper as the Three Stripes' premier marathon racer and features full-length LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam. Torsional plates and ENERGYRODS are abandoned in favor of a small stiffening element that assists the 27mm midsole from completely bottoming out when churning out kilometers. Adidas' proprietary LIGHTTRAXION outsole works in-tandem with a patch of Continental rubber under the forefoot to deliver reliable grip in all conditions.
Away from performance, asymmetrical 3-Stripes logos on the profiles inject adidas Y-3 flair into the Adios 9. The same Made for Sport tag found on the Adios Pro 4 appears on the shorter silhouette's the lateral mid-foot. Finally, the Japanese designer's signature rounds out the special edition Adizeroes on the left shoes' heel.
A firm Adidas.com launch date for the fashionable running shoes hasn't been disclosed by the brand as of yet, but that's likely to change as the 2025 marathon season commences. Each pair should be priced between $300 and $350.
