Anthony Edwards’ sophomore signature model has been slowly but steadily gaining traction, a tall task considering the AE 1’s near-universal praise and end-of-year accolades in 2024. Rather than chasing reinvention, adidas has leaned into confidence with the AE 2, continuing to refine the silhouette through sharper color stories and performance-driven updates.
This latest adidas AE 2 arrives in a bold black and yellow makeup that immediately recalls one of basketball footwear’s most recognizable palettes. The high-contrast treatment evokes the iconic “Thunder” Air Jordan 4, a colorway long associated with energy, speed, and on-court presence. While the AE 2 maintains its own visual language, the familiar combination gives the shoe an immediate impact.
The upper is anchored in black mesh, keeping the look grounded while allowing the vibrant yellow framing to do the heavy lifting. That neon tone wraps aggressively around the midsole and forefoot, emphasizing the AE 2’s sculpted geometry and low-to-the-ground stance. Matte-black paneling and carbon-fiber accents add depth, while the yellow outsole reinforces the lightning theme from every angle.
Branding remains subtle but effective, with Anthony Edwards’ logo featured on the tongue and heel in matching yellow hits. Performance-wise, the AE 2 sticks to its core formula, prioritizing containment, responsiveness, and court feel — all key to Edwards’ explosive style of play.
Pairs are already available from select global retailers, with an adidas.com release expected to follow soon.
As the AE 2 lineup continues to grow, this lightning-inspired colorway stands out as one of the model’s most visually assertive releases to date.
