Milwaukee might not be ingrained in the mainstream consciousness as a sneaker city, but the Midwestern destination has a rich culture rooted in freshness. CLICKS, the boutique founded by philanthropist Shake James, has been one of the city's premiere locations for new footwear, apparel, and accessories. It recently teamed up with Adidas Originals to celebrate capital's 414 Day.
Started by a group of friends, the April 14-held holiday celebrates Milwaukee and its culture with music, food, activities, and community. The date coincides with the city's area code, similar to Atlanta's 404 Day celebration. CLICKS' impending project with the Three Stripes reimagines the iconic Forum Low CL in two different color schemes inspired by the Wisconsin capital. A predominantly-blue pair references Lake Michigan and new Milwaukee flag, while the accompanying "White" style pays homage to the city's old flag.
Both old school basketball shoes by CLICKS celebrate the Midwestern destination with thoughtful design cues that can be appreciated by the greater Milwaukee community. Premium construction across the shoes is complemented by wave graphics on the tongue and cheese decals, both nods to the city.
A hand-and-microphone graphic takes the form of a detachable keychain across the Adidas Forum duo. The detail draws inspiration from The Source magazine's album-rating system (founded by David Mays and Jonathan Shecter) introduced throughout the 1990s. Folks who've purchased previous collaborations from CLICKS, then, would complete the five-part mic series if they buy this year's "414 Day" Pack.
CLICKS' latest Adidas Originals duo is limited to just a total of 1,000 pairs. The blue-colored Forum Low is limited to 800 pairs, whereas the second offering is more exclusive at just 200 pairs.
Both styles will release on Saturday, April 12, in-store and online via clickskicks.net. James' next collaboration with the Three Stripes is priced at $134.14 per pair, with two 414 Day-specific tee shirts also launching on the same day.
In addition to releasing a new footwear project, the partnership between CLICKS and Adidas will see philanthropic efforts coincide with the 414 Day celebration. A total of 140 students from Milwaukee College Prep (Lloyd Street Campus) will be invited to participate in a Sneaker Design Workshop in collaboration with Wood U.
The official launch of the "414 Day" Pack by Adidas will take place on April 12 at CLICKS' flagship store. Attendees will have access to live sneaker customization, complimentary food, and a live broadcast from none other than Milwaukee's 101.7 Radio Station. Designer Alexander John will be in attendance to connect with aspiring creatives.
On Monday, April 14, Shake will join Milwaukee mayor, Cavalier Johnson, in the city's annual flag ceremony. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the CLICKS founder's contributions to the city.
