Edison Chen and Adidas Originals have had their figurative foot on the gas since announcing their partnership in October 2023. The duo has launched a handful of different projects through the former's CLOT imprint, further bridging the gap between East and West. For his next proposal, Chen has looked to eponymous label Caroline Hú for a three-pair Taekwondo collection.
Differing from inline takes and Bad Bunny's collaborations, the Taekwondo offerings forgo their traditional build for an aesthetic that modernizes ballerina flats. Each pair replaces suede found on typical styles in favor of a glossy patent leather build. Profile 3-Stripes protrude ever-so-slightly via a puffed "Silver Metallic" finish across two of the forthcoming three pairs. Velcro-assisted straps run throughout the center of the shoe, landing where a tongue-and-laces setup usually goes; the detail indulges in trendy ballerina sensibilities while introducing a breath of fresh air.
Underfoot, traction opt for either tonal or gum brown looks. Structurally, the rubber tread covers the entirety of the low-profile shoe's bottom, not just segments of it as is the case on some Taekwondo releases.
Hú and Chen's work will launch via Adidas.com and select retailers on Saturday, Oct. 4, for $150 per pair. Enjoy e-commerce and campaign photography of the trio ahead.
