Jersey City's Sneaker Room Celebrates Puerto Rico With adidas Originals
New Jersey-based retailer Sneaker Room is finally launching its ode to Puerto Rico with the help of adidas Originals.
Last year, during the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, the independent shop surprised attendees and online spectators alike with an AdiStar Control 5 steeped in details inspired by the Caribbean island. Little information was known about the project on the day it popped up, but Sneaker Room eventually confirmed that the blue, red, and silver-colored pair was a custom shoe made with the Three Stripes.
Almost a year later, the Jersey City institution has shared details about a modified version of its Puerto Rico-inspired AdiStar sneaker releasing over the next month. The rollout begins in San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital, on Saturday, May 16, before eventually making its way to Sneaker Room in Jersey City (410 Central Ave).
The retail version of the adidas Originals shoes informed by P.R. feature a similar color scheme as last year's custom, but abandon the star, "Boricua" and coqui elements found on the original. Nevertheless, the collaboration is unmistakably inspired by Puerto Rico, the place that's inspired many Bad Bunny x adidas projects as well.
