ASICS SportStyle Revisits 2014 for GEL-CUMULUS® 16 Retro
Since its days as Onitsuka Co., Ltd., ASICS has been obsessed with developing the best running products for athletes. The Japanese institution has found success in the marathon over the last few years with its METASPEED SKY series, and it continues to churn out annual updates across established franchises like GEL-KAYANO® and GEL-NIMBUS®. Ahead of summer, the brand's GEL-CUMULUS® 16 from 2014 has surfaced in a number of color schemes, suggesting a retro is on the way.
Photos acquired by Elden Monitors showcase the silhouette with all the performance-informed elements with which it debuted over 10 years ago. Developed as a budget-friendly, cushioned, high-mileage shoe, the GEL-CUMULUS® 16 has been succeeded by 11 different editions. Nevertheless, its mesh-base, silver accents, and robust GEL cushioning setup align it with other popular ASICS SportStyle offerings.
While not the first performance-runner to return as more of a lifestyle-oriented product, the GEL-CUMULUS® 16 follows news of the ASICS GEL-QUANTUM 360™ returning for its 10th anniversary. Most recently, its franchise's third silhouette lent design cues to the GEL-NYC, a hybrid design that's helped popularize the Japanese company's footwear products.
Handfuls of different ensembles are expected to appear as part of the GEL-CUMULUS® 16's first retro run—including a Valentine's Day-reminiscent style clad in burgundy-and-pink.
Enjoy official photos of the newly-surfaced bring-back product ahead. Pairs should release via ASICS.com by the beginning of fall. Collaborations on the decade-old design are also expected over the next 18 months.
