Atlética Presents Pink, Green & Burgundy Jerseys Rooted in Mexican Identity

Atlética, the sportswear brand founded in 1995 and relaunched in late 2025, continues to celebrate Mexico and its football heritage during the 2026 World Cup™. In addition to reissuing the 2002 World Cup™ jerseys for the country's national football team, the institution presents the North America 2026 Collection, which sees three football-inspired shirts done in pink, green, and burgundy color schemes.

Unsurprisingly, the Mexico-informed range features a green option that nods to the Home kits famously worn by "La Selección." A burgundy design also joins the mix, nodding to some classic looks in the national football team's near-century-old history. Both of these jerseys are rooted in contemporary interpretations of elements that are unabashedly Mexican, with the reddish top referencing Quetzalcóatl, the feathered serpent, while the green Atlética jersey is inspired by Tonallí, the energy each person has.

The burgundy and green designs include a unique Mexico-informed crest on the torso area, while the remainder of the high-quality piece features intricate patterns that speak to concepts of transformation (Quetzalcóatl) or energy (Tonallí). Contrast piping and decorative collars round out each design, making the duo unmistakably Mexican.

The third jersey in Atlética's North America 2026 range is also unmistakably Mexican, but decides to use an image of La Virgen de Guadalupe instead of pay homage to a Mesoamerican figure or concept.

Named La Guadalupana, the third shirt opts for a vibrant pink color scheme, an aesthetic that's become synonymous with Mexico's capital, Mexico City (Ciudad de México). The religion-infused design touches on the idea of faith, which is important to the Mexican identity-at-large. Some players representing Mexico in the 2026 World Cup™ have been recorded saying a prayer at an image of La Virgen de Guadalupe at the former Estadio Azteca—an act that has been memed ahead of the team's Round of 32 match against Ecuador.

The pink Atlética jersey has also gone viral thanks to its large image of the Virgin Mary; the top's eye-catching, fashionable pink look has also made it highly-popular with "It girls" across Mexico.
