After debuting his first signature sneaker, the SHAI 001, during All-Star Weekend last season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has since elevated both his game and his legacy. Now an NBA MVP and fresh off leading Oklahoma City to an NBA championship, Shai’s signature line enters a new chapter with a refined colorway of the model: the “Ares Grey.”

Originally previewed ahead of last year’s postseason, the “Ares Grey” now lands with far deeper context. A complete tonal shift from the buttery yellow launch pair, this edition is dressed entirely in soft, cloudy grey, leaning into a monochromatic finish that feels calm, composed, and intentional — much like Shai’s game at its peak. The name itself carries added weight, too, serving as an ode to his son, Ares, and reflecting a more personal side of the MVP’s journey.

Despite the muted palette, the SHAI 001’s defining design language remains untouched. The sculpted, zippered upper is padded for comfort and containment, while the matte grey finish sharpens the silhouette’s futuristic lines. Inside, the internal bootie, ghillie lacing system, and low-cut collar preserve on-court performance, while underfoot, a unibody molded sole with forefoot Zoom Air cushioning and radial traction delivers the responsiveness needed for Shai’s smooth pace, sudden stops, and surgical changes of direction.

With accolades now matching ambition, the SHAI 001 “Ares Grey” arrives as a quiet but powerful marker of how far Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has come.

The Converse SHAI 001 “Ares Grey” is scheduled to hit select retailers on Thursday, Jan. 22.
