There have been few collaborations in footwear that have had a bigger impact than the OFF-WHITE x Nike partnership.

Rivaled only by Michael Jordan and Nike, and Kanye West and adidas connections, Virgil Abloh’s debut OFF-WHITE x Nike “The Ten” Collection in 2017 was the most audacious first offering we’ve ever seen from a footwear collaboration — and it has never been replicated since.

Not only did Nike allow Abolish to apply such drastic changes to their iconic silhouettes, but they also did it in a colossal 10-pair pack; a feat that only one with grand vision can achieve.

The initial collection of redesigned sneakers included classic models such as the Air Jordan 1, Nike Blazer, Nike Air Presto, and more, each overhauled in the now-signature deconstructed design. Featuring unique design elements such as exposed foam, contrasting stitching, and Helvetica text detailing, the series went on to inspire an entire industry shift, with copy-cats coming in all forms, from Nike’s own in-line releases to adidas Superstars, from luxury brands to Payless knock-offs.

With such success, Nike inked Abloh to a continued deal, working through obscure silhouettes like the Zoom Fly Mercurial to more mainstream models like the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 4 — and a 50-pair Nike Dunk pack too, mind you — building a sizeable portfolio of samples along the way.

After his death in late 2021, the Virgil Abloh Estate has continued the partnership with the Swoosh, dropping select releases pre-planned by Virgil, as well as a selection of samples and gallery-exclusive Air Force 1s.

With the sheer size and popularity of the OFF-WHITE x Nike catalog, it’s hard to define their best, but in this article, we aim to achieve just that; We originally started with a goal of the ten best, but couldn’t cut things down from a shortlist of 20; each deserving of consideration for Abloh’s best.
