While the Air Jordans from 1 to 14 are typically held in the highest esteem by sneakerheads worldwide, it's essential not to overlook the allure of later models, such as the distinctive AJ23 and AJ17. Although they have not experienced complete retro cycles, sporadic releases since their initial debut have kept the anticipation and hype alive. For instance, the Air Jordan 17, which first graced the sneaker scene in 2002, has been somewhat elusive, with only the AJ17+ version getting a retro release in 2016 (not including the 2008 CDP). Since then, only collaborations with Trophy Room and SoleFly have given fans a taste of the silhouette.

Lately, whispers of an Air Jordan 17 Retro's return have been circulating in the sneaker community, and now those rumors have been confirmed by Sole Retriever, who report the return of the legendary "Lightning" colorway for Spring 2024.

Expected to release true to its original design, the 2024 edition will flaunt a white leather upper punctuated by black accents, bright lightning-yellow detailing, and a striking chrome heel hit.

Adding an extra layer of nostalgia to the story, it's worth noting that these shoes graced the feet of Michael Jordan himself during the 2002 NBA All-Star Game. The game, however, was not without its memorable mishaps. Jordan, donning the iconic sneakers, famously missed a wide-open breakaway dunk — a moment that, despite its initial surprise, has only added to the shoes' storied history and charm.

The re-release of the Air Jordan 17 Low "Lightning" is currently penciled in for February 10th, 2024.
