Bodega x New Balance X-Racer “All-Terrain” to See Wider Release
Although known well for their chain of flagship streetwear stores, Boston-based Bodega has established itself a level of notoriety amongst the sneaker scene as one of the premiere collaborators in the current climate. They have an innate ability to turn sneakers that are either lesser-known or lesser loved into hot commodity items. Now, just like they did on their “No Bad Days” 997S, New Balance is hoping that Bodega can weave some magic on the cross-terrain X-Racer silhouette.
For this release, Bodega brings their signature flair to the multi-faceted sneaker, pairing muted hues and dark greys with an array of vibrant, colorful pops. Here, they utilize every inch of the silhouette’s multiple layers and panels, each offering up its own unique fabrication and hue, from the smokey grey-olive ripstop upper, to reinforced toe caps in jet black, and muted suede overlays in varying degrees of shag. Subtle inclusions like the pair’s Air Jordan 4 Wing-inspired eyelet in black and profile ‘N’ ribbon in brown blend into the overlay drab thematic, whist ACG-like finishes elevate the pair from basic to boisterous. Bright pink rides the forefoot ribbon eyelet, medial eyelets, heel embroidery, medical N motifs, and outsole flashes, whilst teal and purple lining add some extra pop. Capping off the sneaker is some classic outdoor aesthetics in the 3M flecked laces, sna-on nylon tongue strap and subtly-speckled midsoles.
An accompanying range of co-branded apparel offers sportswear staples: track bottoms, tees, hoodies, along with zip cargo pocket equipped vest and shorts, featuring vintage, East German rain camouflage fabric, which puts a novel twist on an eternal streetwear fixture while emphasizing the outdoor element.
