COMME des GARÇONS HOMME Goes Tonal for Its New Balance 990v6 Pack
The New Balance 990v6 debuted in 2022 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original 990 design. Over the course of two years, the silhouette has emerged in a healthy mix of inline and special makeups, with the latter category including two pairs from COMME des GARÇONS HOMME soon.
Previewed during January's Paris Fashion Week, the collaborative duo resembles so many other projects from Rei Kawakubo's universe. The Made in USA model opts for tonal 'Black' and 'White' finishes, leaving much to be desired for those who enjoy the colorful makeups from Action Bronson and other New Balance collaborators. But what CdGH's NB 990v6 lacks in color is made up for in taste and quality.
Premium materials appear across the upper, which draws inspiration from the 990 series' running origins. Pigskin suede and leather divvy up overlays throughout the top-half, with the all-'Black' pair delivering a luxe aesthetic via its build's shimmer. Traditional N branding appears at the profiles, while special COMME des GARÇONS HOMME text takes on tongue labels; the same applies to the footbeds. Underfoot, both pairs keep their FuelCell-assisted sole unit intact.
