New Balance Surprises with Patent Trim on 990v6 “Black/Grey”
Grey Days might be in the rearview for another year, but New Balance isn’t done with its most iconic shade just yet. The brand’s latest take on the 990v6 reintroduces the signature grey hue in a bold two-tone pairing with jet black—just in time for summer.
The design starts with a base of breathable black mesh, providing a solid foundation for the model’s layered upper. From there, an array of black overlays dominates the build, arriving in a mix of nubuck, smooth leather, and—most notably—patent leather. It’s a rare material choice for New Balance, adding a subtle gloss to the otherwise utilitarian silhouette.
What's not rare, however, is the use of grey on the suede mudguard overlay, midsole, and liners. A classic black rubber tread rests underfoot to complete the design.
Though a release date has yet to be confirmed, this sleek and unexpected rendition of the New Balance 990v6 is expected to arrive in Summer 2025 via NewBalance.com.
