New Balance 550 “Black/Sail” Surfaces Ahead of Spring

Thanks in large part to the efforts of Teddy Santis and Aimé Leon Dore, the New Balance 550 has become one of the hottest commodities in classic hoops footwear. And with the two parties about to embark on another colorway for the Spring/Summer season, it’s only fitting that New Balance will follow up with some of their own in-line, heritage-influenced releases, too. Now, after revealing itself in a white/black arrangement, the silhouette has just surfaced in an alternate black/sail arrangement

With premium black leather uppers in perforated and smooth forms, classic nylon collars, and athletic mesh tongues, the pair is deeply rooted in 80’s hoop lore. Basketball-textured N motifs at the midfoot join forefoot 550 letters, heel branding, and midsoles in sail hues, while a piercing white panel across the ankle adds a juxtaposed finish to the release.
