The New Balance 550 "Patent Leather Pack" is Available Now

A silhouette that has rapidly gained a fanbase since its relaunch in 2020, the New Balance 550 is set to embark on its latest design evolution in 2024.

Widely loved for its simplicity on both color and textile, the silhouette has seen countless iterations and notable collaborations, but now it's looking a little left field by incorporating a touch of luxury through glossy patent leather.

This move represents a significant shift from the typical design ethos associated with the 550, which has often leaned towards leather and/or suede constructions with a vintage aesthetic.

Each of the three versions in this new collection features patent leather prominently on the tip, quarter paneling, heel, and the iconic N logo. This high-gloss finish is balanced with standard leather on the base, likely a deliberate choice to preserve the flexibility and comfort that the 550 is known for, elements that might be compromised with an all-patent design.

The colorways set for release include a UNC-inspired blend of blue hues, catering to fans of classic collegiate colors. Additionally, two monochromatic designs in inverse arrangements of black and white are also part of the lineup, likely a nod to the enduring popularity of “Panda” color-blocking.
