New Balance is beginning to tone down the 550 ahead of the Fall season, with everything from “Black Gum” to “Cream Canvas” colorways coming your way. It’s next — the New Balance 550 “Vintage Indigo” — isn’t your typical autumn release, but it does provide a slow shift away from the silhouette’s heritage white leathers that often fill up the summer schedule.
Although the pair retains a fairly traditional material construct, its shift from white to cream leather gives the pair an entirely new feel. White mesh collars and nylon tongues remain, but the forefoot of smooth and perforated leathers provided more than enough tonal shift. It’s surrounding accents are painted in two shades of blue, with basketball-textured N motifs and ankle overlays joining 550 branding at the forefoot, whilst muted navy lining and rear clips provide college-like contrast. Underfoot rests a white and muted blue sole unit to complete the design.
The pair is also expected to arrive alongside a matching pair in cream.
