The New Balance 991v2 Takes on A 'Vintage Sport' Look

Launched with the help of Stone Island, the New Balance 991v2 has been quietly amassing a compelling roster of styles since October 2023. The latest addition to the lineup is a cool 'Vintage Sport' option.

Built with heritage, the silhouette harkens back to one of New Balance's most iconic silhouettes–the 991. The Steve Jobs-approved design formed part of the company's Made in U.K. efforts, ensuring that customers were getting a high-quality, reliable product. The NB 991v2 continues the trend, but delivers a slightly more modern aesthetic.

At quick glance, the newer model may seem like a relic of the past, but closer inspection reveals touches that firmly place it in the 2020s. A mix of premium suede and breathable mesh comes together across the upper, which indulges in 'Vintage Sport/Steel Blue' tones. V2 branding appears on the spine, ensuring the update has a proper place in New Balance's extensive catalog. Underfoot, the marriage between modern and vintage is seen clearly, as ENCAP and ABZORB components work in-tandem with full-length FuelCell cushioning to deliver top-notch comfort.

A worldwide NewBalance.com launch for the latest NB 991v2 is expected on Thursday, Feb. 20. Retailers like Kith have produced campaign material for the Made in U.K. offering. The folks at the Up There Store have had pairs for sale since mid-January. In either case, the 'Vintage Sport' 991v2 is priced at $250.
