The New Balance 992 “Pink Chalk” is the kind of Made in USA release that doesn’t need much explaining. It takes one of New Balance’s most respected lifestyle runners and covers it in a soft pastel palette, giving the chunky 2000s shape a warmer, more seasonal feel.
Most of the upper arrives in Pink Chalk, covering the mesh base, suede overlays, leather panels, and heel sections. A lighter pink tone adds variation across the collar and smaller overlays, while deep brown hits on the laces, tongue, inner lining, “N” logos, and midsole bring the pair back down to earth.
The 992 has always handled color well, partly because of the depth across its layered upper. On this pair, the mix of mesh, suede, and leather gives the pink tones room to shift slightly from panel to panel, keeping the shoe from feeling flat despite the largely tonal execution.
That contrast does a lot of the work here. The pink tones give the New Balance 992 “Pink Chalk” its personality, but the darker brown details stop it from feeling too sweet. It’s still clearly a Made in USA 992 — premium, structured, and easy to wear — just with a softer edge than the usual grey-heavy rotation.
The New Balance 992 “Pink Chalk” has already begun arriving at select retailers globally, though a New Balance US release won't land until July 10th.
