There's been a longstanding debate about which city popularized New Balance sneakers in street fashion—Baltimore or Washington, D.C. According to a newly-surfaced 993 duo, there's no need to argue about specifics because simply put, the DMV area of the U.S. did 'em way before the rest of the world caught up.
According to Myles Williams, Associate Product Manager at New Balance, the project "is a tale of two cities...rooted in culture, history, and resilience. ..Inspired by the DMV, built for the community."
As such, both New Balance 993 pairs reference both Baltimore and D.C. in their color executions, which Williams shared on social media.

The "Baltimore" 993 features a "Team Red/True Red/Black Cement" color scheme that draws inspiration from signage at Faidley's Seafood, an iconic business that's been considered "Baltimore's Best Crab Cake" for years. In comparison, the "Washington, D.C." 993 sees a soft "Taro/Fairweather Blue/Sea Salt" medley of colors that looks to recreate the purplish twilight sky that looms over the nation's capital on select days.
Both pairs in the "DMV" Pack form part of New Balance's Made in USA line, which further adds to the project's narrative.
Enjoy detailed shots of both 993s ahead. Pairs are scheduled to release on Thursday, April 2, via NewBalance.com for $200 each.
