The New Balance 993 "Passion Fruit" Is Anything But Subtle

For much of its life, the New Balance 993 has thrived in subtlety. Grey tones, muted navy palettes, and understated color blocking have helped the model become one of the brand’s most dependable Made-in-USA staples. But every so often, New Balance pushes the silhouette outside its comfort zone. The New Balance 993 "Passion Fruit" does exactly that, arriving with one of the boldest palettes the model has seen in recent years.

Rather than leaning into the typical heritage neutrals associated with the 993, this release introduces a vibrant mix of saturated tones across the upper. The majority of the shoe is dressed in its namesake Passion Fruit shade, covering the suede overlays that wrap the toe, midfoot, and heel. Beneath that, contrasting panels appear in a deep Dusted Grape tone, filling out the mesh underlays and lower sections of the design to create a layered color story that feels distinctly spring-ready.

Bright accents help sharpen the look. The oversized “N” logos at the midfoot arrive in Firefly yellow, injecting an energetic contrast that pops against the surrounding purples. Additional yellow touches appear subtly throughout the upper, reinforcing the playful palette while maintaining the model’s recognizable structure.

Despite the more adventurous color scheme, the New Balance 993 "Passion Fruit" remains true to the construction that has defined the Made in USA series for years. The upper combines premium pig suede, breathable mesh, and smooth leather elements, delivering the kind of material quality that has helped the 993 maintain its reputation as one of New Balance’s most respected lifestyle runners.

Underfoot, the shoe retains its familiar cushioning platform. A beige-toned midsole houses the model’s ABZORB cushioning, while a black rubber outsole grounds the design and balances out the otherwise colorful upper.

The New Balance 993 "Passion Fruit" is scheduled to release on March 12th via NewBalance.com and select retailers, priced at $200.
