Nike Celebrates Glasgow With Special-Edition Air Max Plus
"What are you waiting for? Just Dae It." That's how Nike begins its official product description for an Air Max Plus dedicated to Scotland's largest city, Glasgow.
It seems that the Swoosh has put together a commemorative pair of the U.K.-favorited Tuned Air pioneer for "The Dear Green Place," incorporating details sure to be appreciated by any Glaswegian.
The pair boasts a "Black/Safety Orange" color scheme that isn't necessarily new to the Air Max Plus, but is applied across a refreshing design. Radiating lines that wrap around the breathable mesh upper reference Glasgow's vibrant rave culture, working in-tandem with an orange gradient to nod to the nightlife. The citrus-colored elements themselves also draw from "that traffic cone on ol' Wellington's head," as described by the brand. As the city's unofficial mascot, the Duke of Wellington statue is located outside the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Royal Exchange Square, and had to be referenced in a Glasgow-inspired Nike shoe.
Orange cone-shaped embroidery appears behind the tongue, with the right shoe's tongue badge also donning a graphic of the prankster's prop.

A more direct nod to the city arrives on the center of each tongue with "Glasgow" stitched onto them. The Tuned Air bubbles at the heel round out the homage to the Scottish destination with "Mad Wae It" messaging.
Enjoy official photos of the Air Max Plus "Glasgow" pair ahead. It's very likely that the shoe will launch exclusively via Nike.com channels in the United Kingdom.
