Themed releases have been a staple annual occurrence for the Nike Air Max lineage, with the big-name silhouettes glorified on everything from Topography to Cuban Links, and even Japanese Emojis — and that’s in 2020 alone. As we move into the new year, you can expect all kinds of weird and wonderful Air Max packs to flood the market, the first of which appears to honor the history of the line itself. The corduroy-clad thematic has already appeared on the Air Max 90, Air Max 95, Air Max 97, and now 1998’s Air Max Plus joins the party.
For the Tuned Air offering, a black corduroy upper is matched with jet black cages, mudguards, and rear overlays, leaving colors solely for accentuation. Primary colors of red, blue, green, and yellow all feature throughout, seemingly stemming from the vintage TV Colorbar tongue tag. Just how that shifts in color from panel to panel, so too do the eyelets and midfoot shank. Notably, the pair comes equipped with a forefoot mini Swoosh and Air Max collage insoles — two commonalities of the collection. Sectional midsoles arrive painted in white to both pop underfoot, and to frame the aforementioned rainbow shank, with the pair completed by reflective tongue tips, royal blue Air supports, and — in a rare move — alternate-colored TN badging throughout.
Grab an official look at the pair here below, and expect this Air Max Plus to release soon at select retailers and Nike.com for $160 — and as always, keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates on its release.
