Back in 2019, Nike introduced the first round of winterized GORE-TEX Air Force 1s to great success. 2020 saw a similar response, though the effects of COVID and an uncertain future put a handful of the silhouettes in the back of the market’s mind. Looking ahead to Summer 2021, it would probably be the last place you’d expect a winterized sneaker to release, but either it’s specifically designed for the odd summer shower, or has been repurposed for the impending Fall season. Though long past, no colorway in Nike’s archive is ever really forgotten. Such is the case for the “Escape” theme, which saw a recent revival via the Air Huarache. Today, it lives on by way of numerous homages, the latest cast atop this upcoming release.

While it may lack any overt reference to the aforementioned, the pair does adopt a palette spiritually similar. Light tans wash over the mesh toe, encased by hits of olive leather all around. Elsewhere, white balances out said earth tones at the midsole and mid-panel, the former dressed with speckling à la ACG. These embellishments play sibling to the Swoosh, counter, and laces above, whose branding adjacent shines in a bright red thread.
