The nation of Japan is seemingly always celebrating something. Aside from famous national festivals like Setsubun and Bunka, there are countless regional and even shrine-level matsuri (festivals) occurring on almost a daily basis. And now, with the Olympics set to kick off in the nation’s capital this week, what better way to celebrate than with a festive Air Force 1 Low “Matsuri”?
Though the pair arrives constructed mostly of canvas, each set of panels arrives with its own unique pattern print. Polka dots don both the heel and toe in red and navy respectively, and re mt in the middle by a simple white and blue mid-panel. Toe boxes, eyestays, and tongues all take on floral arrangements, whilst heel panels and insoles arrive at a green and white candy stripe — both of which are finished with a special celebratory Japanese graphic. Tan suede tongue tags and Checks boast some intriguing textured detail and arrive in great contrast to a fairly simple sail and semi-translucent outsole underfoot to complete the design.
No release date for the Air Force 1 Low “Matsuri has not been set, and given that the nation always seems to be celebrating, it’s hard to even predict when exactly these will release.
