Nike Golf looks to the next major event on the PGA Tour, with this new Nike Air Max 90 Golf “PGA Championship” celebrating this year’s event in Tulsa.
The newly-surfaced pair makes reference to Route 66, one of the United States of America’s oldest highways, and one that cuts right through this year’s host city in Oklahoma. Insoles feature graphics reminiscent of those found on Google Maps, while traditional Air Max branding on the tongue labels is replaced with a highway sign-stylized “NIKE ’72” — a reference to the founding year of the Nike corporation (not to be confused with Blue Ribbon Sports years prior)
Outside of the highway-inspired motifs, the pair ushered in bold metallic silver eye stays and heel overlays as a nod to the weekend’s hefty trophy, sandy Grind Rubber Swooshes, and gold Air cassettes and surrounding branding atop a white waffle mesh anchor. There are plenty of glaze overlays to keep things lightweight, while a modified outsole of black rubber will enable solid traction to the fairways of Southern Hills.
A release date for the Nike Air Max 90 Golf “PGA Championship” has not yet been set, but pairs are expected to land at select Swoosh stockists soon, as the PGA Championship begins on May 16th..
