The Air Max 90 has never really been a glamorous sneaker. In fact, it’s heavily weighted to the other end of the spectrum as a casual go-to for the gym or the mall. But if the silhouette’s 30th anniversary year in 2020 taught us anything, it’s to never put the Air Max 90 in one category. Though it still has to work hard to elevate itself, this next-up 90 does the absolute minimum to achieve it.
What appears to be just another run-of-the-mill release, thanks to its minimal, tonal build, is actually something much more elegant upon close inspection. Yes, mesh uppers and leather overlays are unchanged, and its sole unit is fairly mild, but subtle enhancements make all the difference. The pair’s profile brand panels and tongue tags have been omitted in favor of metallic silver embroidery — a finish that appears again at the listening tongue branding. From there, the Checks champion a camouflage-like reflective finish that omits shades of emerald green in differing light that ad d dazzling final touch to an elegant offering.
