In the recent past, Nike has taken a fairly whimsical approach to its annual Valentine’s Day drops. From candy hearts to literal love letters, the Swoosh has shown love to its legendary designs in more ways than one. But for 2023, it seems that Nike is taking a more subtle approach, with pairs like the Nike Dunk Low, More Uptempo, and Air Trainer all arriving without obvious V-Day motifs. Instead, they simply borrow schemes from the day; In that instance, Gift Box Chocolates. Now a parallel collection may be in the works, as this new Nike Air Max 90 “Valentine’s Day” (2023) has appeared — and again, it has no telltale signs of the Hallmark holiday outside of its deliberate color palette.

Anchored in an off-white mesh, the pair quickly hams up the holiday through a trio of textured overlays. Here, it’s pastel pink suedes that host magenta mudguard overlays, with textured Swooshes of ruby red ramping up the theme even further; it’s met by a handful of cream and beige accents up top, and a convergence of all colors underfoot.
