Nike Air Max 96 II “Beach” Pulls a Ralph Lauren in Denim and Chenille

Ralph Lauren, the American design legend, does many things well. The cross-category designer has found a way to claim several signature looks from preppy to collegiate to rugged chic, each forever associated with the RL brand. He’s also notorious for mixing and blending styles, wearing motorsport gear with ranch denim and athletic trainers, too. With this in mind, it would be quite easy to see this new denim-clad Air Max 96 II appearing on the King’s feet in the future.

Though not an official collaboration by any means, a merging of three RL-famous categories emerge: retro sportswear, ranch chic, and preppy collegiate. Firstly, nylon uppers are reminiscent of heritage runners, before overlays of dual denim arrive akin to RRL workwear seen on cattle stations the world over. Lastly, the pair hones in on classic collegiate colors of red and gold in finishes of chenille ever-present on varsity jackets. Liners of terry toweling channel traditions, too, while embroidered Swooshes jump off the release as a sleeve patch wold on the aforementioned jacket. Finally, corduroy-like collars are a classic RL callout, while retro Nike branding on the insoles cements the transcendent theme for the entire release.

European retailers Naked has confirmed a release date for the Nike Air Max 96 II “Beach” for June 1st.
