After a handful of OG releases kicked off the silhouette’s 25th anniversary earlier this year, Nike has shifted its focus to some fairly audacious attempts at the Air Max 96 II. Some come clad in purple suede, whilst others arrive in denim and chenille — but its next option, this Nike Air Max 96 II “USA”, harkens back to classic Olympic-themed trainers of yesteryear.
Arriving clad in a patriotic palette of navy, white, and red atop a metallic silver mesh upper, the pair isn’t shy about being seen. Bold reds and whites figuratively jump off the pair’s dark base, while 3M reflective Swooshes, tongues, and profile panels further heighten the mesh’s metallic silver finish. Metallic gold threadwork on the rear five-star embroidery in a nod to the inevitable mass of first-place medals the US rake in, with the insole stars more obviously focused on the Olympic theme, arriving in the Games’ trademark arrangement.
Grab an official look at the Air Max 96 II “USA” here below, and expect to see these arrive in time for the Tokyo Olympic Games in late July. Until then, keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for updates.
