    Connecting the dots.

Winning the FIFA World Cup is no mean feat. But winning it on home soil, with the pressure of the nation — and the World — on your shoulders? That’s something else. It’s been done a handful of times, mostly in the early part of last century, but achieving it in the modern era is rare. France did it in 1998, the last team to do so, and the first since Argentina in 1978. The powerhouse Footballing nation also currently holds the title for Men’s, and in 2019, will look to be the first nation to simultaneously hold both Mens and Womens cups, as the competition kicks off this June — hosted in France for the first time since 1998.

To celebrate the two hostings, and the potential of holding the two cups, Nike will be connecting the figurative dots by releasing this special edition Air Max 98, which arrives in patriotic national colors, complete with dual patterns; the upper sports a soccer ball-inspired graphic, while the mudguard overlay is in reference to the French Women’s recently unveiled spotted uniforms for the 2019 World Cup. A bold “98” is glazed over the tongues in metallic copper, with the overlay lining to match. Copper pops up one more time, stowed away within the Air unit, and the pair comes complete with spotted insoles and tongues, and the French words “Nos Differences Nous Unissent” — translating to Our Differences Unite Us — their slogan for the Cup, which also features printed on the national uniforms.

A release dat has been touted for May, likely towards the end of the month, with the tournament commencing on June 7th. Until more details arrive, take a peep at the official image set below, and keep it locked on our Nike Release Dates page for more updates!
