Penny Hardaway’s career may have been stunted and cut short due to injury, but he still plays a significant part in the game of basketball — and in the sneaker industry. As head coach of the Memphis Tigers, Penny continues to contribute to the game he loves, coaching and guiding the next generation of hoopers. On the footwear side of things, his signature Nike sneakers have arguably never been more relevant (save the Foamposite), with OG reissues and collaborations from Social Status and Stussy dressing his first two name-aligned Nikes. Now, Nike will look to blur the lines between Hardaway’s two concurrent influences, with this new Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Tiger Stripe” paying tribute to his time at the helm of Memphis Men’s Basketball.

Keeping things monochromatic, the Swoosh has served up a simple black and white build, with not much out of the ordinary; that is until you spot the added Tiger Stripe suede panels along the collar and eyestay line — the only deviation from an otherwise straightforward design.
