The Nike Air Max Plus has lived many lives since its debut as a Foot Locker-exclusive in 1998. Its latest ensemble seemingly turns back the clock to its launch year, drawing inspiration from the world of football in the process.
Officially clad in a "Black/University Gold/University Red" color scheme, Sean McDowell's design maintains its classic mesh base, TPU overlay build. As with its most iconic finishes, components opt for a gradient that delivers eye-catching flair. The gold-and-red touches, combined with the palm tree-reminiscent plastic overlays evoke images of Japan's iconic goalkeeper jersey by ASICS for the 1998 FIFA World Cup™ tournament. Worn by Yoshikatsu Kawaguch, the shirt has become a highly-coveted item as blokecore aesthetics have become trendy and the 2026 World Cup™ inches closer.
Nike's Air Max and Tuned Air-cushioned proposal don't feature flame graphics like Kawaguch's jersey, but its finish would pair well with the long-sleeve shirt.
Enjoy official photos of the latest Air Max Plus makeover ahead. Pairs should release via Nike.com by April 2026 for around $190.
