The Nike Air Max Plus is no stranger to the limelight, and its recent string of innovative color palettes proves that the brand is firmly pressing on the accelerator. With 25 glorious years behind it, Sean McDowell’s 1998 classic shows no signs of slowing down. While we await the retro releases of the silhouette's original designs in 2024 — including the OG "Sunset" and "Voltage Purple," Nike is teasing appetites with fresh takes, including an intriguing mix of grey, navy, and volt.

At first glance, this upcoming Air Max Plus iteration faithfully adheres to McDowell's late-'90s design ethos. But a closer inspection reveals subtle, modern twists. The familiar TPU overlays have been swapped out for a sleek, flush fuse material. The choice of material might have been different, but its reflective nature ensures that the shoe doesn't lose its head-turning prowess. The mesh base, draped in a rich blue, seamlessly melds with the glazed-on grey overlays, making for a harmonious blend that resonates with the spirit of the original design.

Nike's branding prowess shines through with a splash of neon yellow on the tongue's tip and sides. This zesty hue is more than just a decorative flourish; it conjures up memories of other iconic Nike models from the same era. The neon dalliance continues beneath the feet, with the Tuned Air and Air Max units embracing the same vivid yellow. In contrast, the whale tail-shaped mid-foot shanks go all-in with the vibrant hue. The sole, with its waffle-patterned traction, sticks to a muted dark grey but ensures other elements get a share of the spotlight.

This new Nike Air Max Plus is slated for a Fall/Winter release, though specifics on the drop remain under wraps for now.
