It seems that lately, the Air Max Plus has forgone its gaudy gradients and vibrant hues in favor of some relatively reserved — even elegant — options. It’s a strange word to use with such an aggressive design, but this all-new Air Max Plus “Sashiko” is just that through the use of a refined color palette, finely tuned weaves, and heavy metallic silver accents.

The upper, which resembles a sashiko-style canvas textile, arrives in marled black and white with a uniform crosshatch pattern in a widespread polka-dot fashion. Vein overlays, which appear to be a solid black, actually gradient up to an oil green at the top for a very understated finish. Toe caps, mudguards, and heel overlays all arrive in black, as do the toe and heel of the midsole to frame the chrome hardware at the midfoot shank. Surrounding that is a circle of white to accentuate the shiny metallic silver, before resting atop a black rubber outsole. Midfoot Swooshes also arrive in a chrome finish, while rare pops of color come into the Air supports (dark blue) and outsole detail (volt) to complete the design.
