Aside from its audacious colorways and its unfortunate association with drug slingers, the Air Max Plus is probably best known for its use of gradients. The OG options burst onto the scene back in 1998 with bright colorful uppers of multiple hues offset by striking black caging which drew even more attention to the graduating colors. This next-up pair, dubbed the Air Max Plus “Sherbert” thanks to its mix of pastel orange and pink, honors the silhouette’s heritage in multiple ways.
The first of three gradient finishes found on the pair, the mesh upper flips its lightest hue to the bottom, working from a bright white at the guard to a warming yellow-orange at the eyelets. The same effect is applied to the cage overlays with light pink and orange-red respectively, with the two returning again to the midfoot shank. Elsewhere remains relatively simple, with black mudguard, tongue, and heel overlays joining clear TPU toe caps, while brige white Swooshes match the liners, laces, and midsole paintwork to complete the design.
An official release date for the pair is still unknown, but the Nike Air Max Plus “Sherbert” is likely to sneak into select retailers and Nike.com over the coming weeks. When they do hit shelves, we’ll be sure to keep you posted here on our official Twitter account, but until then, enjoy an official look at the pair here below.
