Who says sustainable can’t look sexy? Though it’s well-loved, the fairly ugly Space Hippie linage didn’t really get Nike’s sustainable series off to a pretty start. Its follow-up Move to Zero Air Maxes and Air Force 1s were pretty heavy on gritty grind rubbers, too, but more recently we’ve seen some Dunks, Air Max 97s, and more appear in a more recognizable fashion. This next-up Nike Blazer Low Platform “Butterfly” continues that trend and then some, delivering a sleek and decorative design that’s both easy on the eye and almost unrecognizable as a recycled release.
The pair joins a wider Nike Sportswear pack that boasts recycled textile uppers, soft pastel palettes, and detachable caterpillar and butterfly motifs that capture the overarching mantra of material metamorphosis. Taking something used and turning it into something new, Nike repurposes both its upper and leather overlays — and likely other aspects, too — in white, blue, and sail hues. Its retro-inspired tongues and their branding fit the silhouette’s era, while whimsical caterpillar and butterfly patches on the profile highlight the cause. The latter is spotted again on the insoles above Nike’s Move to Zero Pinwheel.
Though a release date did not accompany the official image set below, you should expect to see pairs of this playful and sustainable Nike Blazer Low Platform “Butterfly” arrive at select retailers ahead of Spring 2022.
