Nike sure knows how to get the most out of their retro silhouettes — remodeling. It’s worked countless times on silhouettes like the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1, and to a lesser extent, the Nike Blazer. Outside of the Blazer Mid Rebel and collaborative efforts from the likes of READYMADE, sacai, and Virgil Abloh, the silhouette has remained relatively reserved. Until now. The all-new Nike Blazer Mid Jumbo redoes the OG Nike hoops shoe in a big way — pun intended.
While every panel on the pair is recognizable, it’s been entirely changed. Big, bold oversized fat-bellied Swooshes rest over the profile, midsole, eyestays and heels — al of which have been altered in overzealous fashion. The heel sees the biggest change, forgoing a traditional leather heel and ipting for a sock-like collar. Forefoot overlays arrive oversized, too, while toe caps – which retain their original shape and size — now arrive as a two-part toe (no overlay!) Tongue tags and medial eyestays are also jumbo-sized, as is the outsole’s herringbone tread which now protrudes beyond the flush line of the midsole. In fact, we were wrong, the midsole is unchanged — the only facet of this gigantic design that’s true to the OG.
