Nike Dunk High Up “Setsuban” Releases March 16

Chinese New Year celebrations are never done in half measures — especially the celebratory footwear packs that arrive to honor the new Lunar Year. From straight-up “CNY” releases to the special “Shapeless, Formless, Limitless” series, Nike has more than a handful of options to ring in the new year. Now, there’s another pack primed to join the party, with this Nike Dunk High Up “Setsuban” or “The Seven Gods of Good Fortune” kick-starting a series of special releases.

The famous Edo-period illustration by Kuniyoshi Utagawa of the same name graces the insoles, which is where the pair gets its name. It depicts Gosekku, the five annual ceremonies that were traditionally held at the Japanese imperial court, kick-started by New Years’ Eve Kochōhai, before moving on to four later-day celebrations as the year progresses. The exterior looks to hues used in the print, with tan suedes, off-white uppers, and pops of muted purples, greens, and golds all present. All of this sits atop a sail and gum sole unit, with the pair completed by special metallic gold embroidery at the tongue, profile, and heel demonic motif which symbolizes the changing of seasons.

A release date for the Nike Dunk High Up “Setsuban” has been set for January 30 in Asia, and will likely remain exclusive to the region. The pair will also be joined by an accompanying Nike Dunk Low for Setsuban.
