Though the past 18 months have been rife with Nike Dunk drops, not many of those have ventured outside of their staple two-tone, leather constructs. On occasion, the silhouette has surfaced for marquee collections (like N7 and Chinese New Year) as well as a handful of themed collections like the upcoming duo of “Bright Side” Dunks. Now another atypical finish appears on the silhouette — this new Nike Dunk Low “Cacao Wow” — and it’s like nothing we’ve seen this decade.

Where to start? The obvious place would be the pair’s unique and complex stitch work that works in sashiko-like styling across the toe and quarter leathers. There’s a hint that this may be the inspiration, with Asian-influenced jade rings wrapping the sashiko-blue laces — with further hits of the blue hue gracing the shaggy Swoosh and heel overlays. The construction and color blocking is not your typical either, with thick canvas and ballistic mesh working from olive to white/brown and chocolate from back to front. Its overlays alternate in color and texture, too, with brown leather quarters, shaggy green suede eyestays, and olive toe caps coming up at the front. The pair is then completed by a simple white and olive outsole and suede tongue tags up top.
