Despite his retirement in April 2016, the late Kobe Bryant's signature Nike Basketball sneaker line remains one of the game's most beloved. The Los Angeles Lakers legend's estate has been honoring him with special releases and initiatives, keeping his memory alive. Throughout 2026, the Kobe 8 is expected to launch in a number of Protro editions—including a "Year of the Horse" reissue.
Reported by Sneaker Files and X user @zSneakerHeadz, the news follows an ongoing release cycle of Nike Kobe products. Shoes for on-court performance have been accompanied by lounge-ready slides, as well as baseball jerseys and fashionable tracksuits. The impending "Year of the Horse" Kobe 8 Protro, however, adds another tally to the former category, providing players like Jalen Brunson and Caitlin Clark more styles to choose from.
First launched in 2014, the "Year of the Horse" offering commemorates the Chinese zodiac. Bryant was beloved throughout the Asian country, with the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing showing fellow USA teammates just how global the Black Mamba was. The pair features a "Light Crimson/Bright Citron/Vivid Blue" color scheme that's set to return in all its glory throughout the first-half of the new year.
