Last March marked a momentous occasion for fans of Kobe Bryant as the late basketball legend's estate and Nike, Inc. rekindled their partnership after a brief intermission. This reunion was followed by the release of the sentimental Kobe 6 “Mambacita” on May 1st, commemorating what would have been Gigi Bryant’s Sweet 16 birthday, paying tribute to both father and daughter.
Since that release, the flow of Nike Kobe sneakers has been rather subdued; The Kobe 4 Protro “Mambacita” stands as the sole addition, with the upcoming Kobe 8 Protro poised to debut later this year. However, a revelation by Nike CEO John Donahoe during the Q4FY23 earnings call suggests a more ambitious plan is taking shape.
According to Donahoe, a “Kobe Brand” relaunch is slated ahead of Kobe Day, annually observed on August 24th — 8/24, commemorating Kobe's on-court jersey numbers.
The specifics of what this entails remain under wraps. Still, it is conjectured that the relaunch could encompass a resurgence of Kobe apparel and accessories and an affirmation of forthcoming Kobe sneaker releases.
Notably, a segment of the proceeds from this relaunch is expected to be channeled towards the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, honoring the philanthropic spirit of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi.
With Kobe Day 2023 just around the corner, you should expect to hear an official announcement soon.
