Kyrie Irving has had a fairly tumultuous 18 months, with the star guard causing a ruckus everywhere he went. From refusing to take the court to publicly denouncing his signature Nike sneaker — a shoe the brand had to rename the Kyrie Infinity — to rumors of Nike not reinstating his contract. But with one year still left on paper, Nike and Kyrie will resume things through the official Nike Kyrie 8, and it once again forms part of the brand’s annual N7 collection.

The N7 initiative is something that is important to Kyrie, as his late mother, Elizabeth, was a descendant of the Standing Rock Sioux. Nike’s focus is on getting youth in Native American and Indigenous communities in North America more active, so they can lead healthier, happier, and more successful lives. Since its creation in 2009, the Nike N7 Fund has awarded more than $8 million in grants, administered by the Charities Aid Foundation of America, to more than 270 communities and organizations.

Featuring a largely monochromatic nylon olive upper, with accents of white and burgundy working around the collar and midfoot. This year’s special edition honors his own Standing Rock Sioux tribe and calls out the hoopster’s Lakota name of Hela at the tongue, while the signature Nike N7 logo appears on the striking yellow insoles. THe pair is then completed by a white, olive, and gum sole unit underfoot.
