Throwback!
Long before the Lakers called the City of Angels home, the franchise was wayout in Minneapolis, and with it came a different set of colors. The Purple and Gold wasn’t always the Lakers’ identifier, with the OG team colors of light blue and yellow forming the foundation. That pre-LA package has been donned on the court many times by the current day Lakers in the form of throwback jerseys, and even Kobe’s Protro 1 received it’s on “MPLS” colorway just last year.
Now, it’s the new leader’s turn to show some love to the franchise’s history, with LeBron’s 16th signature sneaker decked out in the throwback duds. Its grey Battleknit upper comes paired with a white midsole and laces, with the team colors splayed across the outsole, sockliner, heel pulls and branding. Markings such as the MPLS-style “LJ16′” on the tongue, “23” numbering on the insoles and star print along the pull-tabs officially link the shoes to the old school unis.
The Nike LeBron 16 “MLPS” is expected to release on April 19th on Nike.com for a cool $185. While you wait on the release, take a peep at the official image set below!
