It’s always a natural fit for Nike SB to pay tribute to Hawaii. The home of surfing, which ultimately leads to the birth of skateboarding, has seen a handful of inspired colorways over the years, most notably on 2004’s “Aloha” collaboration with Kicks Hawaii. For this release — a 4/20 special — we see a more literal approach, with this Nike SB Dunk High “Hawaii” donning floral duds, natural fibers, and hues that mimic the famous Maui Waui marijuana strain.
First looks at the pair provided by @yankeekicks show a printed textile construction reminiscent of 1960s Hawaii shirts in hues of green, sandy yellow, and peach. The patterns engulf the entirety of the upper, enabling the hemp-like textile Checks and tongues to pop. In fact, the fabrication is eerily similar to the aforementioned Aloha Dunk Low — perhaps a cheeky nod to the preceding collaboration, too. Liners, laces, and outsoles also arrive in a washed sand hue, while its midsoles revert to a classic white finish. Completing the design is a bright orange tongue tag, perhaps an indication of an Orange Label status.
