In addition to retroing some of its iconic jerseys, Nike Football continues to revive the Total 90 franchise with footwear, delivering a healthy mix of one-to-one reissues and fashion-forward options for the modern day.
Ahead of summer, the Total 90 III indoor shoe has surfaced in a "Pearl White/Shadow Brown/Pearl White/Gum Dark Brown" color scheme. On paper, the medley of tones might read simple, but its execution atop a more premium upper than usual is anything but.
All of the bells-and-whistles that made the stud-less silhouette an icon 20 years ago—encircled 90 figures on the medial side, offset laces, quilted toe box—reprise their roles on the newly-surfaced pair. A two-tone presentation takes over the bulk of the upper, with inner lining opting for a lighter shade of the titular "Pearl White" hue. The tried-and-proven sole unit dons different shades of "Gum Dark Brown," with the outer layer seemingly taking on a Nike Grind, recycled build as suggested by its speckled finish. Yet, what's most eye-catching on the latest Total 90 III is the distressed aesthetic across the upper. The design choice presents the pair as if it's been sitting in a closet for years after having been worn on the indoor pitch. As with other Nike Sportswear offerings done in a similar style, it's possible the upper wears away to reveal another layer of color, providing a personalized experience.
