Serena Williams is now Banned from wearing her Nike Super Suit
At Roland-Garros, at least.
Serena Williams has always pushed the envelop Both on the court, off it, in fashion and in life. There’s no bette example than her guile than her triumphant return to the court following the birth of her daughter late last year. Even more of a talking point was her full body Nike bodysuit, something never before seen on the court.
But now, according to ESPN, the 23-time Grand Slam winner will not be allowed to wear the skin-tight black catsuit next year, as French Tennis Federation president Bernard Giudicelli, says the tournament will be introducing a dress code. His reasoning is clear when is stated “I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far.” The comment is sourced in an interview for Tennis Magazine‘s 500th edition.
He followed, “It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place.”
Without going into specifics, Giudicelli said the tournament would “impose certain limits” but would not be as strict as Wimbledon, which requires players to wear all-white.
We don’t think you can control someone who transcends the game — it will be very interesting to see her response at next year’s tournament in Paris.
