With his current trade to the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant will soon have been part of five different NBA franchises. His latest Nike KD 18, however, celebrates the team with which everything began: the Seattle SuperSonics.
Although the team rebranded as the Thunder and relocated to Oklahoma City, it lost a touch of magic by leaving the Pacific Northwest. Durant's spoken fondly of his time with the team that drafted him in 2007, and his Swoosh family recently commemorated the occasion and subsequent Rookie of the Year award.
Throughout the Nike KD line, bits and pieces of Durant's personal life have taken sneaker-form, offering fans a closer touchpoint to the NBA champion. Styles like the KD 6 "PB&J" and KD 18 "Smart City" are more than high-performing basketball shoes—they're part of one of the greatest basketball players ever's legacy.
The SuperSonics-inspired pair features the defunct team's iconic white, green, and gold color scheme across the upper and sole unit. Some details drew inspiration from Durant's rookie season trading card, with various nods to the ROTY award appearing throughout the shoe. Only 18 pairs were made to commemorate the occasion, with no public release in mind.
